Downey Scholarships Available

Do you have a high school senior at home with lots of potential but little money for college??? Get him or her to the attention of the Downey Association of Realtors. Scholarship applications are being accepted from graduating seniors at Columbus, Downey and Warren High Schools and also from students receiving their GED at Downey Adult School. Applications will be accepted until March 2, 2007. Students should visit their guidance counselor for information or visit www.daor.com for an application.

Christmas lights in Downey

This time of year in Downey reminds me of car rides around town with the kids to check out the christmas lights and decorations. We munched on cookies and warmed to hot chocolate as we ooohed and ahhhed our way around town with our eyes glowing from all the pretty sights.

The best sites, time and again, were located at:

• Home on Everest between Downey and Brookshire Avenue (what a treat!)
• Several homes on Rives between Stewart and Gray and Rundell
• Yankee Circle homes
• 8400 block of Dalen, off of Brookshire, South of Imperial (one of the best!!!)

There were so many more homes as well but these homes will always have a warm spot in our hearts. The time and effort these homeowners took to achieve such glorious displays was appreciated by my kids, myself and the pint-sized crowds that would sometimes gather. To these homeowners I would like to say, thank you for the lovely memories...
